Girl Geeks

In searching the internet for something interesting to post about I stumbled upon a website called Girl Geeks. This website encourages girls to find jobs in technology and much more. It has tips for women in the work place, opportunities to get a degree in computer science, and features a women each week who is voted as "girl geek of the week." Having website like this can allow for women to have the resource to get into something that can be a life long career. It also encourages women to excel in certain things that are usually associated with men. One of the women featured as "girl geek of the week" is Isca Greenfield-Sanders, who is a visual artist and uses technology to create her works of art. She takes already existing photographs and uses other mediums like photoshop, oil pastels, watercolors, and printing to enhance the image she has obtained. By creating this new art form Isca has created something entirely new and innovative and proving that women can create something beautiful from anything and can compete with many other acclaimed artists.

Defining Ahmad Al-Chalabi

"Burning Baghdad" is a collection of a girl's blog posts on her opinions and feelings of the time period when the U.S.A. took over Iran and Iraq. Within the book she uses many terms and names that may be unfamiliar to many people who are not interested in politics of other countries or who not involved with current events. Because of this, our teacher has asked us to define either names or terms that may be unfamiliar to many of the people in our class. I have been chosen to define Ahmad Al-Chalabi and that definition can be found on my google site.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog for WMS 150: Women, Community, Technology. This blog is for a class that I am not even sure how to explain. It is a combination between media literacy and the power that women and the sense of community have to make a difference. This is what I have come up with so far,but I am sure that through out the course my view might become different. I have also created a Google site where some assignments of mine will be posted if you are interested in following along with my progress. The Google site can be found clicking here!
